Quick 200dx question

Does the 200 DX come with all the accessories: torch, pedal, regulators etc?, or are those prices just for the box ? It doesn't say that anywhere on the net descriptions that I could find or maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

You can find it both ways. Miller has part #'s for machine only and then #'s for machine with "contractors kit" which contains everything you need except gas and filler rod (and maybe the tungsten for your particular application). You will find most folks here will steer you away from the contractors (I am not one of them) but you can easily put together a package for your particular needs.

I bought the contractors kit with the HD foot pedal and have been happy with the quality of the components. I even travel with my 200DX and all of that stuff is still hoplding up admirably. Try http://ebay.com for pricing on the machine and http://arc-zone.com for the parts you need if you choose not to get the kit. I would recommend at least buying the machine from a local dealer in case you have warranty issues. All in all, you will get great info here so good luck in your endeavors.

Ok this might be a stupid question but I have a lincon mig welder which I use at home but I would like to start learning to use tig. This machine seems like its quite popular and can do most any job? So I'm most likely leaning towards getting it over the TA 185.

Heres the question will this work with my household power? Or do I have to rewire anything in the house(I'd have to have someone else do it most likely).

What is your household power? It can run off 115 and 230. Find out what your amperage on the circuit breaker for the most accessible outlet. Search should bring up a thread with the wire sizes and amp draw. 230 is 30A breaker reccomended, dont know about the other voltages. Look at the PDF owners manual and try to interpret what the electrical label and sheet mean. I personally would rather give you the knowledge of how to read that than tell you what to do and you fry yourself if you dont really understand electricity. Not saying you DONT understand electricity, just that i dont know if you do.

Never seen it offered on the 200DX. I speculate that the fact it is so light it is not offered. It's offered with the 300DX. Here's a link to Miller's welding carts. http://www.millerwelds.com/products/accessories/carts/

The 200 is not offered in a Tig Runner package, but the same cart will work. On the 300 Tig Runner the Coolmate 3 is bolted to the top of the cart drawer and the Dynasty 300 is bolted to the top of the Coolmate 3.

If you wanted to use the same cart with the Coolmate 3 bolted to it, the Dynasty 200 will set directly on top of the Coomate. There are no vent holes in the top of the Coolmate so it would work fine. A 1/8" rubber mat between the Coolmate 3 and the Dynasty would keep it from sliding around.

i use my 200dx in my garage. if it will work out there, it will work pretty much anywhere. but, i know that its power output is limited on my curcuit, because of the limited power i am feeding it. you just have to find what the breaker will take before tripping, for me its something like 100-120a, depending. but i found that it will only power about 75 amp with smaw, but i have more testing to do on this part.

a 200dx will not slide around, its bubber feet give a good grip. at least on mine.

if you plan to do a lot of away from home welding, the contractor kit would be great. if your only going to weld at home, then picking your own parts will save you a little money.

I think that the reason you trip at lower current settings with stick is that the voltage with stick is much higher. and PIE or one of those electrical formulas says that it takes more current to produce more voltage. in other words when the secondary voltage goes up the available secondary current must drop, when tring to maintain the secondary current the primary current draw increases since the primary voltage is a constant. If you understand all this congratulations. read it a few times and it might make sense. I typed it and still had to read it 3 times before I understood it myself

If the 200dx can run off both 110 or 230 aren't the plugs for both different?

How does that work?

I have a older fuse box that has the screw in fueses will that be a problem?

The Dynasty comes with 4 bare wires on the input supply cord. The plugs are supplied by the owner/operator. The green wire is ground, the black and white wires are hot. Use these 3 wires for wiring the 120 VAC and 240 VAC plugs.

For 120 VAC use the green for ground, white for neutral, and black for hot.

For 240 VAC use the green for ground, white for 1st hot, black for 2nd hot.

The red wire is only used for 3 phase wiring. You usually wire into a 3 phase disconnect box direct or with Hubbell type 3 phase connectors. Either way the green is ground, the white is the 1st hot, black is the 2nd hot, and red is the 3rd hot. Sometimes you will hear these hots referred to as 1st, 2nd, 3rd legs in phase wiring.

The set up for 3 phase only applies to the Dynasty 200SD/DX welder. When wiring motors and other devices to 3 phase power the white, black, and red order may not be correct as the motor must start and rotate in the proper direction. At any rate please read the directions and/or have a qualified electrician help you with the hook up if you are unsure of the proper procedure.

ONLY USE THE RED WIRE ON 3 PHASE WIRING. CLIP THE EXPOSED WIRE, TAPE IT GOOD WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE AND FOLD I OVER AS SHOWN IN THE MANUAL FOR ALL SINGLE PHASE WIRING.

You can use the screw in fuses as you are describing. Just make sure the wire size on your supply circuit is sized correctly to properly handle the amperage load. You may blow some fuses if you exceed your rated duty cycle. Unlike breakers fuses are a one time use item where breakers can be reset many times. Again if unsure if you box is safe, then have a qualified electrician do the work.
