  • Digital Meter Display on machine?

    Hi everyone,

As some of you might know I purchased a used Miller Maxstar 152 with the Snap Start II HF and foot control and a CP300 pulser (have no clue how to use it). I got it on ebay and its in good condition!

I like this machine very much and I have been practicing tiggin for the past few weeks. I am doing ok with, with tigging flat stuff...and starting to practice on tubing..but not doing so well there! hahaha!

Anyways, I started this thread needing to ask a question about digital displays. My machine has an option of adding a digital display for the "AMPs". I checked the manual and its on page 23 around the middle of the page. Its connected to the board/IC labled "PC1" and the Meter board optional is called "PC3"...I was wondering if I can do this upgrade myself? If so what kind of digital display do I need and is there a certain type?

Thanks in advance...and hopefully someone will know cuz im clueless! hahaha..

    regards,

While I enjoy using machines with the new fancy meters, but I have to admit I really like the old analog machines with just dials and getting the feel for your particular machine is the magic. I wouldn't change it, but that is just me.

For the particulars Hawk or Andy might know.

    Peace,

One thing I dont know how to use is the pulser (CP300)

you wont need it till you start on aluminum, although some say it can help you with when to add filler.

you should start a new post titled "help with CP300" and you should get lots of responces it has been out for a wile and i have herd of many putting it on there syncro180's

        .
        thanks for the help

          Hi james,

My machine is only DC Tig...will I be able to still use it???

          Thanks,
          cleaver

ps: doesnt the new maxstar 150 have the pulser feature built in to it? and its only DC? If so, then doesnt that mean that I can use it with my DC tig?

            pulser

the pulser is also used on real thin stuff to prevent burn through and reduce the heat afected zone.

sorry my bad i had a brain fart i was thinking you might use it to lern a rithem of adding filler and forgot about it's dc functions. sorry.

still start the other thred and you will get all the info you need
            thanks for the help

You can add the meter option if it's still available. It's just pull the cover off and mount the meter pcb and plug into the wire harness.
You will have to check with a dealer to see if they can still get it.

                  Hi Andy,

Thanks but I doubt that my local dealers would still even get it, cuz when I mentioned the model to them before it seemed like they have NEVER heard of that model! hahaha...I guess they are use to the new models that they have never heard of the older ones!

Its not a big deal, I just though I could buy something at the local electronics store and just solder it on the pannel or something...but ill try again, when I go to the supply store..

Thanks again for the help Andy!
