    Steel Prices

If you want to know what you'll pay in your area, you might try this website:

Steel Spider advertises prime, excess, and secondary steel that is in stock and available for multiple suppliers.

at our shop we get a bill of materials together an fax it to several suppliers and wait to see who can provide the lowest cost. In this day and age you have to be frugal with your money. Steel isnt going to get cheaper and some companies will take advantage of the little guy. Also let the companies know that you are checking prices with other suppliers. This will cause them to offer you a discount. It may not be much but if you can save 75$ you will be all that much better off.

Sorry but this is one place the net will not do you any good. Go to your local steel supplier, tell them what you need, and then proceed to checkout. It is going to cost what it costs.

I don't mean to be trite but my dad used to say, if you have to ask, you can't afford it. Clearly this logic is flawed but, in the realm of buying steel, you don't have much choice. You can buy new and pay the prices that are listed or you can go to a yard that sells scrap/used and take your chances. Buying used/scrap is great but you usually have to clean/blast all the rust off before you weld. Buying new is more $ but usually requires less prep (usually).

Anyway, good luck with the trailer and post pics when you are done.

    Angle Iron, Suare Stock Prices

Does anyone know where I could get the going prices for steel stock? Angle iron, square stock, round stock... ? I've scoured the net and came up with basically nothing! I'm wanting to build a trailer and have to find a local supplier but just wanted to create a bill of materials and do some estimating of price. I know prices are different around the country - but a ball-park or rough idea of what it might cost me.

Working...
