  • First Anual Miller-Forum-Members Weld-Off Festival

Hey everyone. I was reading my favorite website/forum and read something about Miller's show they had at certain training sites or their headquarters.

    So I got to thinking:

Why don't the users of this forum break up into groups (yes, like when we were in grammar school) and hold a welding festival?

These groups would be designated by YOUR LOCAL AREAS -
Maybe we can hookup with a local school or one of the member's shops. People can bring their machines (if possible) and set them up for the groups to try out, compete in contests, learn, teach, whatever...

We could get the word out to local welding stores/vendors and the local gas suppliers - who could in turn, run some specials on machines, or supplies. Even get Miller to send out some reps with products/deals/specials???

The member forum groups can BBQ (burgers & dogs), get a keg, even have some music - and we can all sit around and talk about welding.

All of this could be funded by selling tickets - where the $$ price $$ would be driven by the size of the event.

I know this: If all of this would happen and come together like I just described, EVERYONE who would attend would return year after year. It'd be a huge success.

Is this an impossible idea - or could it work?

Let's throw around some ideas - ha?

Another couple thoughts - to make this happen:

Of course we would have to get a lot of interest.
Second, someone (or more) would have to actually start the process of organizing this. Contacting local vendors, etc...

Maybe we could get some help from Miller? It'd be a great way Miller could make money - using these little town-to-town shows, or events.

Andy, any input on this idea?

Don't want to sound like a Dweeb here, but let's not turn this post into a p!$$ contest on who is a better welder. I really thought this was a good idea and would love to see what everyone thinks. So please, stick to the topic. Maybe with an event like this, we could all benefit from it and become better welders.

              Serious?

              Well,
If we get enough interest, I could just have everyone come down to the Atlanta training center and we could play there or maybe the home office training center and a tour of MILLER
This would mean however, travel for most of you and that may be out of the question. If we had enough people interested, we could do it.

ttravel is a nono for me I work 6 days a week. mostly on government contracts with tight deadlines(they pay the best). And would be unable to go far from connecticut. This may sound odd but Im paranoid that there may someday be no need for my skills. so i work and save now in anticipation of lack of work. When will there be an expo in NYC or ythe northeast expo center?

                          Guys,

The whole idea of this was to organize amoungst ourselves and sort of throw this party for us. Break into groups that people could go to. Maybe this couldn't happen and my pipe-dream is too un-realistic. Any thoughts?

Maybe the regional thing would be the way to go... I can help in the Atlanta region and Appleton. We still would have to have enough people to sign up so I can reserve the training centers.
