This is what i've heard and read,
it is due in large part to china taking all the scrap metal it possibly can. One of the large problems is that the US is one of the largest exporters of scrap steel. Reason for this is unlike the other countries that export scrap steel (they have limits as to how much they can export) The US does not have limits as to how much we can export. So of course the Companies that have the scrap steel see china and go "Hot ****, we can sell our scrap for more because china needs it and everyone else has limits we don't." Well that's what i think and i've read articles that are close to what i said, not exact. Kind of in my own words but as a p'd off customer what can you expect.

try buying raw material in the northeast I cant even get 1/8 wall 2x2 6061, more than 40 feet. Not to mention costs for material are going up. Yarde(one of my suppliers) says its because china cut their export in half. This sucks americans chased industry like this out to save pennies and now factories are gone and it will cost millions to get them up and running again. Its unfortunate but like most things it all seems to come full circle.

The thing that absolutely P___es me off is that there never seems to be any shortages in the items whose costs are suposedly being driven up because of world demand, I've always been able to purchase anything in any quanity I want which shouldn't be the case if what there peddling as the reason costs are going up is true.
Around here gas can be had for as much as 15 cents a gallon difference by the hour. I still say much of it's just greed and they are doing it because they can.

Scott,
I just got that flier too today, and i can't believe it, right now i have customers ordering pallets at a time and stocking up on wire since the price of wire has kind of leveled off till this nice green flier. So guys it might be a good idea to buy a few extra spools next time you go into your suppliers.

Price Increases....
..... I know there are other vendors, but Lincoln Electric is a major player in the filler metal market, and up until now, everybody has kept pace as far as price increases, or steel surcharges, if you will. Since springtime we have seen several increases in wire prices. Those increases have come at us at about $0.035 to $0.055 cents at a time. Significant, but not earthshattering, although they do add up, to around $0.15 so far. Well, now Lincoln is getting serious about it's increase, and I can't believe others will be far behind.
On October 1st, Lincoln Wire and rod will be going up $0.155 per pound......that's right fifteen and a half cents. Even sub arc flux, which had been stable until now is going up $0.085 lb.
So, if you are anywhere near needing wire, now may be the time to stock up.Tags: None
