  • Carbon Arcing

Ok at work we have big red welders (DC-600) CC-CV really nice setup. we can carbon arc with them.

I want to know why i cant carbon arc with my Dynasty 300DX it does not list it but the XMT shows it its inverter also.

    Just wanting to know

    GaryM,

I have not tired it but you probably can. However, that would be like taking your Mercedes Convertible down to the Saturday night dirt track. It may do it and also do some damage in the process. CAC is a tremendous load on any machine as it is a " dead short". I would not treat my D300 that way. There are too many high dollar/high tech components I would not want to ruin.

I have run 1/4" carbons on XMT's and ALTs, but Miller does recommend this for these machines and will stand by the warranty. Since it is not a recommended process for the 300DX, I doubt Miller would be too excited about backing up the warranty.

The voltage may also be to low, as the machine is designed for TIG which needs less voltage, I have used my Bobcat for CAC, but had a hard time as the voltage is also low, and Miller does not have it as a recommeded power source either, my Synchrowave 250 does a better job on CAC, 'higher voltage', but I still would like to have something with more Volts. Hope this helps, Paul

What are you cutting that you need that many Amps the DC650. We do must of CAC is goaging very little cutting.

for cutting we use kemaline, its burns very hot.
