  • Yet another Dynasty 200 - 300 question...

We all agree the Dynasty 200DX is a great welder, but sometimes it would be nice to have a little more capacity. Is there any disadvantage upgrading to the Dynasty 300DX (which will also be used for thin metal / tubing at times) ?

I guess I am conserned with the lower amperage range (1 Amp on the 200DX vs. the 5 Amp low end on the 300DX).

      LOL

If I do this, I don't want to be disappointed.

      Thanks for the input.

You will not be disapointed in anyway. The 300DX is one the best Tig welding machine I have ever used. Try it out if you still have some doubts but you will fall in love with it

There is one disadvantage, the Dynasty 200 uses Auto Line Technology ™ for primary power sensing.
The Dynasty 300 uses Auto-Link ® Technology for primary power sensing.
The only time this difference is likely to affect you is if you run a Dynasty 300 on 208 volts primary power and you get a slight power sag “Brownout”. Since the Dynasty 300 is rated for 230 Volts + or – 10% at – 10% gives you 207 Volts. If your primary input voltage drops below 207 volts the machine might do some strange things and the lower the voltage dips the more likely operational anomalies will occur.

              jasonsp6,

              Great Question!

You will loose some portability and the option of running from 120 Volts AC input power. However, the 300DX will not disappoint you. It forms a puddle much faster than the 200 DX and is one of the nicest GTAW machines I have ever used. Since TIG is my thing I have one of each and will be glad to answer any real life questions you may have.

The Dynasty 300DX will easily weld 1" aluminum webbing and the difference on the bottom end will not be an issue. My 300 DX will do 3/8" fillets on 6061 Al at 185 amps to start the puddle and some less to run the weld using argon shield. It will run a 6" coupon in well under a minute. That is actually arc time per pass. The 200DX will struggle hard at 200 amps wide open with 75%helium/25%argon and still won't achieve a good single pass fillet on 3/8" 6061.

In addition to the power the 250 water cooled Diamond Back Miller torch is very ergonomic and will weld all day without getting warm. The coolmate 3 and cart that come with the TIGRUNNER package are very nice additons and almost necessities for the Dynasty 300DX in a shop enviroment.

Decisions are fun when new equipment is involved!

Yea, yea ,yea... Deep pockets are nice to have I'm jealous but really like my DX 200 for the portability issue and the ability to use the 110 in a pinch. Hawk I will stick with my spoolgun on the thick Aluminium . Had the BOILERMAKER over last night to give me some insight in the tig game & could not get any help because he was so intense on the spoolamatic & some 1/2" plate Last word out of his mouth was "I gotta get one of those" So much for my Lesson & my refreshement inventory(lesson over when frosty refreshments depleted)
Disconnect the spoolamatic, pad lock the fridge, hide the aluminium scrap, AND maybe I will learn something...LOL

                  Jasonsp6,

Let me know if you want to see the 300DX, i'm in orange county a lot and if your current supplier won't show you one, or get one in to show you, i will. no need to buy from me or anything. But i'd rather see you get the right machine. Just let me know, it's always nice to help and plus i get to demo the machine too

Thanks for the offer again! I am still in the process of trying to choose the correct welder for my application.

Can you please give me your contact info at work?
