One of the best bargains in welding literature has to be the Miller Student Package. Cost is $25.00, and this is what you get for your money:

Ten books/booklets, including two that Miller sells separately for $25.00 each and a 3rd one they sell for $5.00. Also included is their 3 piece calculator set for SMAW, GMAW and GTAW that they sell for $4.00. Also included is a certificate for a free Miller Jacket with the purchase of certain Miller welders.

It used to be $25 but I see they raised it to $35. It includes a video also if I remeber correctly.

The video isnt worth watching if you ask me. I think you can watch the contents of the video on the website anyway, which seems to be aimed at middle school children.

I already had the calculators so I ran an email free auction at Hobart for the three or four teenagers who were there at the time and gave the set away to one of them. The Mig and Tig books are the most valuable; the stick book is a small pamphlet.

They sell it for $25 by itself; not sure if its the same one or not. Student package is the way to go IMO.

Well since you dont get past the front desk, there isn't that much to see. In fact I talked to the person that puts the packets togeather on the phone, and had to come back to the front desk to yet it.

Won't believe it

I guess calculators and such were available when I learned, but I was not aware of such materials. I learned by trial and error until is sounded right and felt right. The visual was a final check, but if the sound and feel were there, then the visual was a give me! I don't remember wire speeds, stick diameters, material thickness etc versus required amperage. I just make the weld. It's a lot like playing the guitar by ear. You don't know the chord, but you know it is right.
