copper coating on filler rod

I read a few days ago that alot of you tig welding guys take the copper coating off of the filler rod. What do you use to take it off???

I have used either green scotchbrite. or emery cloth but only remove a small amount to match the amount of welding your going to do.

Or just buy it without the coating, same for mig wire....Paul

Hi neighbor, I think the AWS forum has dealt with the coated or uncoated filler issue in the past. It has been a while but I think it was a toss up about like the one here a few days ago. Good Luck, JEFF
