what are some good pointers when welding with 308L wire on carbon steel pipe and with pipe in a fixed position 6G. 308L wire is a stanless mixed metal wire? If so do I weld AC or DC or does it matter while in a fixed position that is.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that 308 & 308L are stainless to stainless only. Carbon steel to stainless requires 309 or 309L.
If that's the case, the pointer is don't do it. Buy some 309. From the way you worded your question, it sounds like you're welding carbon steel to carbon steel. If that is the case, get some E70S-6. All position blow and go wire.
there are carbon steel position weld tests out there and they are to be done with a stainless type wire but I thought it was 308L. Maybe its a mixed wire I'm looking for but what is it called? Is 309/309L wire used for this purpose?
