    skbydoo,

Here is a joint design that may help. I find this works well on really thin material. See attached.

This has been posted before, but I don't remember posted it. I think it was either tackit or sberry. Both are good welders and have some great input on this forum. Either way see attached

    skbydoo,

I have butt and lap welded .004" hastealloy with the 200DX using .020" 2% thoriated tungsten and argon. As dyn88 mentioned a copper backing plate to draw the heat from the torch is a good option. I used a carbon backing plate. The Dynasty only uses HF to start on AC and DC so no change should be needed there unless you have changed the hidden menus. If so, just reset to factory defaults per the owners manaul. Use a chemical sharpener as it is difficult to grind .020" tungsten with any degree of accuracy. Maybe this will get you started. There are some other neat tricks as well. Maybe later. Supper's ready!

wow four thousanths now thats cool. I have welded .006 before but.004 thats gonna take some finness. First start with a .040 tungsten(2% is fine) next this may sound weird but you are going to want to use nitrogen as a sheild. The reason for this is nitrogen is electronically active at a much lower voltage than argon.if you use a filler use .010 dia and hammer it flat between two pieces that are the same material as your base. Good luck and be patient. I have been told that .010 is the thinnest you can weld with manual gtaw, but like i said Ive done .006. also turn your high freq to start only, and turn it down as low as it will go. finally if you still have no success place th base on a piece of copper to draw excess heat away from joint.
