  • looking at buy a tig welder

I have use the dynasty models 200 and 300 and at first glance they will seem to do what i need, weld aluminum. I have a 170 amp mig welder no spool gun available. I want to be able to weld 1/4" AL when necessary most often i will be welding schedule 40 pipe in aluminum. will the 200 do this without a problem I dont want to buy to small a machine but dont have the $$$ to spend if i can get away cheap. also have much current do i need to operate the 300 I have a 50amp breaker for my welder and plasma machine now. I like the inverter technology and most often will be welding in residential areas less interference is desirable.

The 300 will fill the bill better for 1/4". Your 50 amp breaker will support the unit up to 200 amp. You need 60 some amps for 250 output. If you are going to be welding 1/4" often you should consider a water cooled torch and a coolmate.

Others with more experience will fill in the real life details but the 300 would be my choice.

    Good Luck!

      df5152,

      WELCOME TO THE FORUM

      SHORT AND SWEET!

I use both machines. The 200 will cut you short on this application. It will do it, but won't like it! Get the 300DX TIG RUNNER PACKAGE. I push the max on the 300 with a 50 amp breaker. No warm wires. No claims or recommendations here on the wiring... Consult the owners manual. It can be downloaded:

You might check with an electrician knowledgable with welder installations. I think the 100 AMP circuit may be overkill in this instance. However, if you follow the advice of the manual and or a licensed electrician , you will have peace of mind in your wiring. It is better to do it right than burn the house down!
