Buying right size nibbler

I'm planing to do some metal work on my pole building before winter, The Bosch company shows a 18 ga nibbler doing the same work I'll be doing but for a few bucks more I can buy the 16 ga.

My question is,
will a 16 ga nibbler make rough jagged edges on the lighter 26 ga steel thats on my building's roof? Thanks

I'd stay away from a nibbler and go with electric shear. The hard part is going over the ridges. I hate the nibbler and will give mine to the first person to show up at my door with 50cents. It leaves all those razor clippings everywhere. When I built my building, I used the plasma cutter for everything. Even cutting out the windows and J trim.

ASKANDY did the plasma cutter cause much paint burn back at the cut? I didn't think shears would cut through corrugated metal.

i have used my plasma cutter on auto panels (22gage) and it only burns back the paint about 1/4" to 3/8" at most. should leave you verry little repaint work.

It hardly did anything. I'd say about 1/16 to 1/8th. I'll take a few pics of some drop off I have here yet. Too late tonight.
I had my dad cutting panels while a friend and I put them up. He was getting the sheets cut faster than we could put them up.

Thanks for the pictures ASKANDY, nice building you have there, have you decided on a product and method to insulate it?

I called a spray foam insulate outfit for a price and the guy said most times they just spray a 1/2 inch layer to soundproof and seal any cracks, the cost was between 50 and 60 cents a square foot.

He said after the foam you use batting the rest of the way out. I'm not able to do the job fast enough by myself so I'll likely pay to have the insulation and inside metal shell done.

I went to a building supplier and got 1" pink styroboard. It worked great. Just scar it with a knife and break to size. I placed mine inside the perlins and then put plywood over that. It's very quiet. Even when running one of the race cars, my wife most times doesn't notice in the house. Standing just outside the building you can hear a dull roar unless you really rev the engines.

I used the plywood inside so I can easily add shelves and cabinets to the walls. I also put a cieling in and insulated that. I went to Home Depot and bought the blown in insulation and they let you use the blowing machine for free. I have a 32 X 72 building so it took quite a bit of blowing. I recommend a good breathing filter mask.

After installing satellite systems for over 5 years I'm BIG on the radiant barrier (foil, techshield, etc...) insulations. I'm going to be putting the double bubble radiant barrier from www.fifoil.com. The stuff is awsome. Being in Houston we have to compete more with the radiant energy more than the actual temp.
