    the ELDER WELDERS are right.........but if time and $ are a issue go with the miller student package (kicks a##)

    then get a set up like pjsman has ........210mig w spool gun

    i believe that you can get one on ebay for under 2grand

    for a novice a mig is going to be your best investment !!

    Welcome and I agree with Hank especially with Aluminum. As a beginner you will be wanting to go foreward but without the developed skills you will be frustrated. I use a mm210with a spoolgun, there are smaller less expensive machines but this has the power and duty cycle for big time fabrication on a budget.

    Welcome to the forum.

    From the information you provided, I suggest you seriously consider a welding school. After some formal training, you'll have an idea what the capabilities of various welding processes are and what equipment is needed to accomplish the task.

    I would not reccommend that that any beginner start out on 1" thick anything. There's much to learn before you get to that.

    what welder?

    do you now what kind of welder i would need to weld 1" to 1/8" steel and aluminum if there is one for a beginner thanks and also a plasma cutter too.
