  • aluminum wire storage question

    I was wondering if there are things that should/can be done to protect aluminum wire after it's been opened to make it last. Thanks

    You might put it in a plastic bag with a desicant canister to absorb humidity.

    Good luck,

      Thanks pjseaman. I have no experience with aluminum mig wire but was told it would start to oxidize after six months,just thought I would throw it out to you experts.

          Canuck:
          My friend has some cut lengthes of PVC pipe with caps that screw on he made. He keeps the Al and Ni rod in these containers for preventative he also uses desicant packs in the Aluminum. The containers protect the filler and keep it clean, dry and neat as a pin as is the rest of his shop {he is a machinist, go figure}

          Hope this helps,

            Thanks PJS thats a good idea. Maybe i will make a nice stainless or aluminum bracket to bolt them to the side of my machine. Add one more thing to the list it never ends
