    Genset Driven Dynasty200DX

    Hello all:

    I am planning in the next 1-2 years to purchase a Dynasty 200DX. Ideally I would be able to run this off of a genset as I will not have access to line power.

    Does anyone have any comments? Will this work? What are the downfalls?

    Space and weight are critical and I will not be able to purchase a machine designed for truck mount or something similar.

    lvc will help

    the dynasty 200dx dose have line voltage compensation to help keep you stable if the gwnerator fluxuates .it will also depend on how much generator you have?? 5000W? 6500W? it will have truble on a little colmen in not shoure it would even run.if you match your generator to your welder you should be ok.HAWK hase probly had to do this befor as have others im shoure maby they can tell you how much generator you will need.

      I have run my D200DX form 2 different generators:

      1) I have used a 5500 watt generator on the Blustar 180 and was able to pull 168 amps for stick welding and 198 amps for tig welding. Overall the Dynasty 200DX performed well. It seemed to falter a little when I cranked the arc frequency above 175 HZ or used the pulser above 300PPS.

      2) I have powered the D200DX from my Trailblazer (10,000 watt surge & 9500 continuous) and have never had a problem regardless of arc HZ and /or pulse settings.

      When I sold the bulk of my mobile business and equipment I kept the D200DX and have had great results powering it from a 10,000 watt rental generator.

      AS FUN4NOW MENTIONED THE LVC REALLY HELPS IN THIS APPLICATION!

      Hopefully this will help you size your generator acoording to your needs.

        Steved,

        After trying a couple of different hook ups I settled on a 75' 8 gauge SO cord and a Hubbell plug to power the Dynasty from a generator. This will substantially reduce the line resistance and in turn the overall input power loss.
