MIG wire again

Hi,

I noticed several members are from Houston. I am in Clear Lake near NASA. I have had trouble with Mig wire rusting here because of the humidity. Looks like I might have to buy some sort of oven in order to store my wire. A past posting mentioned a descicant and storing the wire in a sealed box. Has anybody here in "Humidity Heaven" tried this stuff? How do my fellow Houstonians deal with the corrosion problems?

I just opened a new spool of wire for my MM251 and got a brown finger when I ran it accross the wire. The wire has been stored in my house since I bought it and has been only opened at the store when I bought it and then resealed. It is less than a week old.

This is beginning to be frustrating, maybe I should get the kit for small spools and buy a new one each time I need to weld something.

Ya gotta read "MiG" wire post and my reply. I think my research and solution is a great find, maybe not new but good if anything>

Have you checked the humidity in your house? I keep mine in the house except when I'm welding and haven't noticed any corrosion issues on my wire. I like JOHN1's idea about the dessicant though. I really think that would solve your problem.

Mig wire again

I haven't checked the humidity in my house, but my air conditioner drain shows I am pulling large amounts of water from the air. I am beginning to think the real problem might be where I am purchasing the wire. Although I am buying my wire from one of the larger welding suppliers in Houston, I really don't know how they store the wire.

I also think I might need to construct some sort of storage container with some sort of heat source and maybe even some desicant too. Living this close to the water probably agrevates the problem. Thats why I was wondering if any other welders here in Houston have the same problem.
