Bad News? The economy is rebounding, my taxes are lower. Thanks in large to the United States, Iraq & Afghanistan are sovereign nations and have and are experiencing massive moves ahead in human rights. There is a world wide demand for steel that is making the prices rise, which means a solid world economy. Lot's to be thankful for. Number one is that I live in the USA, the greatest nation in the world.

Happy Fourth of July to you Hank, and everyone else here...

Hope everyone has a great time and stays safe this weekend...

......... ...My apologies for not thanking those who have served this great nation in my first post. Weather you served in wartime or peace, stayed in the USa or served abroad, your service is greatly appreciated by this American.... ..Without the millions who have served our country, we would not be celebrating the Fouth of July.

              arcdawg,
Does it bother you to stop and get a soda from a vending machine and pay a buck?? How about a nice cold Dasani water on those hot welding jobs, also a buck!! We here in the U.S.A. have it made as far as petroleum products go, try buying fuel in , let's say England, and paying $4.00 a gal. Figure the price of a gallon of soda and gas is dirt cheap. Anyway, I hope all on the forum have a great and SAFE Independence Day!! God Bless our fighting men and women for allowing us the chance to celebrate another July 4th!!

hey dawg--went to PA today and found gas for $1.77. What's goin' on in CT? Even in Baltimore it only about $1.83.

One of the great things about living in this country IS the ability to charge what one wants for the product he produces. ( my sympathy to the dairy farmers) Imagine living in a country where, although your steel and fuel prices would be set by the government, so would the amount you could charge for your labor or finished product.

What if you had a chance to sell your house for, say a 200% profit, after you had only owned it for a year, but the government stepped in and said you could only make 5% a year on a real estate investment. Ridiculous you say. No more ridiculous that wanting our government to step in and control steel or fuel prices.

Fuel and steel are commodities, and thus their prices are driven by demand for the products. Back when fuel prices hit their highs in mid May, we Americans bought more gasoline in 1 week than we ever had in any week in May, and it was not even Memorial day yet. As long as we keep burning it, what reason would an oil company have to lower it's price. Nope, I was never led to believe that PROFIT was a dirty word. I only wish that I was selling a product that was in such demnd that I could increase my profits more than a couple percent a year.

                  God Bless America.
