syncrowave 250

hello..I have just purchased a syncrowave 250(# kj270944)...my question is ...when does the fan in the machine run?...the water cooler is working..but after welding @80-150 amps in a/c for 15-20 min..the fan does not come on..I've never even herd it run...I pulled the panel off and checked the fan..it turns freely and seems to be wired..I dont want to over heat the machine..this machine was 3 yrs old..but brand new in the box!..my miller dealer gave me a 90 day warranty..and i asked them about the fan..but I have not herd from them! thank you joe

I've been using a Lincoln Tig 275 which is comparable to your unit. It has fan on demand, when welding begins the fan turns on and will run until about 10min after welding stops. i would think the Miller would work in a similar way, worth looking into before doing much more welding. Heat is one of the biggest enemies of eletrical components. I am sure someone will know more about the 250.

Well, the duty cycle at 150amps is 100%,so the fan wouldn't go on if you're not overheating it at 100% duty cycle.

so..the fan does not work till the machine gets hot?..I also have a lincoln tig 275 and the fan works like glockdok says..this is my first miller tig machine and I was curious about the fan ..thanks

Well, the fan will only run when it gets too hot. So I guess at 100% duty cycle it won't get hot.

This unit IS a fan on demand unit. As the unit gets hot it will turn on. It has nothing to do with striking the arc like Lincoln's. Ours will only run when needed. The Lincoln runs even when it really doesn't need to. Ours runs off thermostats and the Lincoln units run off a timer. Both do the job of cooling just fine, ours just doesn't use as much power or suck in as much dirt.

Right On Andy, I had my 250 for a month before I tripped the fan, Scared me because I had become used to not hearing it, but it was comforting knowing it does work as advertised, you have a great machine there, and it stick welds great also....Paul

I can weld for 10-15min at 150amps and the fans never come on. The first time they did I was a little confused as to what the noise was.
