I am doing a speaker box in Highly finished Al and would like the finished welds to match the materials sheen. MM210w/spoolgun is the machinery and Argon is the gas.
Your only wire to get finish color would be the 4043. Even then you'll probably have to polish the weld area. Your limited by the welder you have to use. This would be a great TIG job.
Glockdoc:
I think the material is 303 or 4043 not sure as I haven't picked it up at the supplier yet. The box is a custom size and shape, it is for my truck an 86 f150 with taurus sho seats and it will sit behind the seats and mold into the full length console. Rough dimensions 6'across 10"wide and 6" deep. The console will be 14" wide and 50" long. The console will also have computer fans inside with vents to cool the amps.
PJ,
You will have to polish, but you will get better color match if you use 1100. The tool box companies have done all the leg work for you. They all use 1100 for color match. It is a little hard to find in 1 pound spools, but you should be able to special order it.
I like the 1100 for TIG whenever it is recommended or I can get away with it depending on application. You are right about the color match. I use it a lot on 3003 for color match and good ductility. It really shines.
