I've never tried the speedglass. Wouldn't mind trying it for comparison though. Any way, here is my .02, the viewing field of the Elite is 3 13/16" x 2 5/8". What's the size of the speedglass?
The speedglas is slightly smaller but the larger area is mostly for out of position work. Most of my work is either on a bench or under a race car, the 9000x has worked perfectly for me. That said I believe in buying the most up to date equipment on the market, the big window has a one obvious advantage for out of position work, 4 sensors. I love my speedglas but if I were to buy today, I'd buy the big window.
Benefits for the speedglas though also include the shield is more flexible and lighter.
Hard decision, but you won't go wrong in my opinion either way.
I don't have a big window eite but I have been using the 9000x for a couple of years and I love it. Works great in all the applications I use. I've heard nothing but good things about the bug window, so you got a tough decision.
My co-worker has the big window Jackson with all the bells and whistles and I'm wondering if it ranks up there with the 9000 and elite. I've owned the Speedglass XL that had 3 sensors, 9-13 range, manual/auto that lasted through a rough life of extremely high falls, rain and just plain old abuse. It wasn't until I forgot it in the back of my truck overnight to find it coated with frost that finially finished it off. It took 6 years to find its way into the trash.

I am pretty much a fan of the 9000x. I admit my bias up front before the bomb shell. I feel the jacksons products and customer service are both substandard. Yes I have owned jackson but never again. If the 9000x gives me trouble I'll probably look at the Big Window Elite and the new 9002x but I would rather go into the dark ages with a hunstman cardboard shield than spend anymore money on junk like jackson sold me.
It is possible I got the one bad model out of a million, but poor service on the claim is irresponsible on their behalf.
Buy Otrel Satalite, Big Window Elite, Speedglas 9002x, these are great units. My friends will agree that this is the lions share of the premium hoods available. There are quality units in each line that cost less, but these are the very best available. If you consider its a safety item, WHY buy less than the best!!!
it has 2 pages on the helmits

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to chime in. I bought two Miller auto darkening helmets a couple of months ago. I use one and my 9 year old son uses the other. There both Xlix Stars and stripes. They both work great! After reading all the post about the Elite I thought that maybe I should have gotten an Elite. I was at my favorite welding supply store in Kingston N.Y. and was looking at a black Elite. The guy behind the counter told me that he had a deal for me... (This is the same guy that gave me great deals on my Xlix's). I gave him one of those looks. $229.00 + tax...he said. Box it up I said. Brought it home. Yep the window is bigger. Very happy. My wife was not as impressed.
Thanks Miller! GOOD STUFF! BULLDOG

I own a XLix that I got free with the mm210 over a year ago. I think it is very near the overall quality of the speedglas but I don't care for controls on the outside. I will not complain, it was free and its nice and still looks like new. I've only used it a few times to make sure it worked properly before my wife watched me do some work.
Pjs,
I haven't used a Speedglass but by the sounds of things it's a great helmet as well. I bought the Xlix's and got a great deal on them. The one thing that I'm looking forward to (besides the bigger window)is the extra 2 sensors. I have been in positions where my arm or something covers the sensors and have gotten flashed. I hope that the addition of the extra sensor stops this from happening.

I talked with my welding supply vendor today about the Elite. He said that he's sold a few Miller 210's with free Elites(don't think they do that anymore) and hasn't heard anything bad about them. So he quoted me 250(No tax in Oregon) for the american flag one. So I should be getting it sometime next week. He told me 254 originally but I talked him down 4 bucks. It was hot today and I think that's why I gave up so easily.

I picked up my Elite last night on the way home from work. I was surprised to find that spare lens covers were included...nice touch Miller!! I pulled it out to take a look and the counter guy was impressed. He said for autodarks they sell mostly Speedglas on the top end or no names on the low end. I dont believe theyve ever sold an Elite. At any rate he said he was going to look into stocking them as a regualr item. He was taken w/ how sensitive it was and how easy the controls were to use. I think also he liked the graphics.
After a very quick comparison w/ my Speedglas I think the Miller helmet might be a bit better w/ respect to adjustability. I did notice though that the lens isnt the same shade over its whole surface. Im not sure if thats going to be a problem. Im going to do some welding this w/e so Ill know better then. Also Im wondering if there will be a fogging problem. My Speedglas has a vent in front which prevents this. I like the Elite controls plus theres a cheatsheet on the inside of the helmet which is pretty complete in case you forget whats what.
For the money its probably a better value than the Speedglas. Depending on where you buy a comparable model of Speeglas is going to run considerably more.
