Is the gas supposed to shut off automatically after I release the trigger? My new Millermatic doesn't and I don't know why. I still hear the gas blowing after I lay my bead. Anything I should look for? I'm new to mig welding, please help.

Does your handle mean you are sneaky-clever with words? I guess...
The gas should stop when you release the trigger. If you pull the power cord, does it stop then? If so, it's pobably a bad solenoid or a PC board problem. If it still flows with no power, there's probalby dirt in the valve seat.
For sure, a Miller expert will answer your posr real quick - hang in there, and welcome to the board!
Be well.

Hi cunning welcome to the board! Where in Vancouver are you? I am in North Delta so we may be close. What type of Millermatic do you have?
From what you describe it sound like it could be a bad valve I had the same problem with my 180sd and miller sent me a new part in two days( Wisconson to B.C. in two days wow thats service!). If you feel adventurous tou can unscrew the cover and try to see whats wrong?

Forgive me for I have sinned...Sorry all I will look closer next time.
East Van, thats not to farChances are the gun is fine it is probably the solenoid valve that comes off of the gas inlet on the back of the machine. If it were mine I would pop the hood and have a look at the valve. I seem to remember a similar problem with a 210 on the Hobart board you could check ther but have a look inside the machine if you feel up to it. Call KMS and talk to a miller rep. as well. Are you going to the show and shine on saturday? there will be a miller rep there.

Hallo,
This is my first post here...I have been reading in this site and the hobart site and its a really fun site. People are nice and very knowlegable! I am a newbie of course and I have no welder. I am from Vancouver too, same as Canuck and cunninglinguist. I will be going to the show and shine this saturday too! I actually entered my car for fun...it will probably be the newest car (1998 Accord) there as most of the cars are vintage or hotrods...hahaha...
I want to see the Miller truck and also maybe Ill go and buy a MIG machine there. I hope that I can get a good deal on a MIG machine, something that I cannot pass a good deal! hehehe, oh cunninglinguist...if you dont mind telling me, how much did you get your MM210?
anyways, KMS tools is a good place...they are helpful and nice people! I heard that they are starting a TIG course this fall, I wanna join that course (one day course)..I took the MIG course too, and it was fun!
I hope that your MIG machine gets fixed soon! Congrats on your new MM210!
regards,
cleavernewbi welder

Handle???????????????
The "Handle" is kinda cutsie... but is it appropriate for a welding forum where many of the members allow their children to read the content????
Just one man's opinion..........

I have had the MM 210 for 2 1/2 years and I love it! It IS a great machine!
I too vote for the solonoid valve stuck or defective. I would turn the tank off, turn the regulator pressure all the way up (don't force it you can damage the seat), turn the machine on, turn the gas on and bump the trigger a dozen times or so. If it is trash in the valve it might blow it out. Bumping the trigger might also re-seat or free up stuck a valve.
A problem I had after about a year of ownership, I turned the machine on and tried to weld, I got no gas. I looked at the (non Miller) regulator and the low side was pinned. The regulator had failed. I put a flow gage on and everything worked again. Apparently the over pressure kept the valve from opening.

Hey all, I'm not going to the Show'n Shine. Not really into pretty cars but I do like beat up 4x4's
Sorry if my handle is inappropriate. I think I was like 17 before I knew what the other word meant.
I got my Miller 210 for 1599 cdn at KMS. Its on sale and its the best price in town. I got a medium tank for it so that the whole thing can be tucked under a shelf when not in use and not have the tank hit anything above. Floor space is an issue at my place.
I took the side panel off. The solenoid is the culprit. It will shut off the gas if and only if I tap it with my finger.
Total bummer!! The warranty service shop said they could replace it but it will be next week. Maybe I'll try to phone Miller direct and they could just send me the part asap.

Though, if we are going to go that route, if the parents are doing what they're supposed to be doing, the children won't even notice the other meaning of the handle.

The above is not how I personally feel, but I felt that that idea needed to be thrown out there.-Tanner

We probably can just leave it at face value, saying he is cleaver with words an thats that. Most wouldn't make more of it if we leave it alone. Atleast he isn't giving misleading electrical opinions. There are things that deserve a blind eye, this is one.
By the way, Welcome aboard
Peace to all,

Hey all. Great news. I called the warranty repair shop about my problem two days ago. They called Miller and it seems there were defective gas solenoids on a batch of welders, mine was one of them. This was discussed on the Hobart forum (thanks Canuck). Miller immediatley shipped it after they called and I got my new solenoids today. If anybody has similar problems with the gas being stuck open on their new welders the problem is with the solenoids and Miller will send you new ones once they know. Its real easy to install too so don't worry about screwing up your warranty if you open the panel. Just don't touch any of the electronics especially the capacitors, it may hold a charge. There is a lot of room to work though. Installing it yourself is easier than hauling the 200+ lb unit to the shop.
BTW these solenoids were outsourced and not made by Miller.
Hope this helps anyone out there!!!
