There should be a chart either on the drive door of your machine or in your manual that shows typical settings. In case it's missing, briefly:
.030 solid wire with CO2 - 40 to 145 amp welding range.
Welding current needed = 1 amp per .001" of metal thickness.
For .030 wire, set up at 2 IPM wire speed per amp of current desired.
Set the voltage to obtain a nice "bacon frying" sound when you weld.
Fine tune the sppeed and voltage for the best weld from that point.

Yes, I should have started this post with " set up per door chart, then if..........
A poster on this board sent me an Email with his definition of this subject.
Wire speed = penetration
Voltage = bead height and width
Fine tune accordingly.
Until a better description comes along I will heed his advice.
Once I start Migging I will follow the advice of other experienced weldors. Practice!!
Thanks to all who contribute info. Makes the newbies (me) job easier.
