  • Aluminum Cylinder Head repair

I'm trying to find the best shop that can repair a cracked cylinder head. These are some high flowing, over 400cfm, Edelbrock Victor SBF heads. My cylinder head guy found a few cracks in them when he pressure tested them. He tried welding them up, but the crack again when cooling. He also ran into some porosity problems, and dirty or contaminated material in the castings. A couple of ports have cracks between the seats. Any suggestios, or know of anybody that is the best at this type of repair work? I probabley have over $5000 in this set, hate to scrap them if they can be fixed.

    Thanks,
    Daryl

    Daryl,

Keith Craft, one of the best small block Ford race engine builders in the country is just down the road from me. If he can't get you fixed up, it may not be possible.

He can be reached at 870-246-7460.

      Daryl,
Welcome and thanks for the question.

He was probably using the wrong filler if it cracked right away. Also where the cracks are make a difference too.

Try Robs alternative or we can find you some places near me or maybe we can try to fit it in my shop. I hate going over other peoples attemps though.

      Good luck

I'll check and find out what rod he was using. I'm pretty sure this guy know his stuff, though. The last time I was over there he had a few dodge cup heads doing some R&D work for Evernham's team. He's just swamped with work and I think he gave up on these heads. The thing is there ported. I just need someone to check them out and see if they can be fixed. I really dont' want to send the to someone in the ford racing head business, because I don't want some other shop copying the work I paid for. Nothing against Keith Craft, but these heads are probable 15-20 cfm better than his. Andy, if know someone who is serious at cylinder head repair, or wouldn't mind looking at them yourself I'd sure apreciate it. Do you know if Ultra Pro Machining in Charlotte does head repair work?

Also check out Indy Cylinder Heads http://www.indyheads.com

I remember reading an article about them a couple of years ago. They had to completely reconstruct a combustion chamber. Not sure if they still do repairs.....but worth a call.

          good luck.
