  • Aluminized Exhaust Tubing

I have been using a MM175 for awhile now for auto restoration work. This is one nice machine! I want to fabricate exhaust systems for the cars I restore and will use aluminized tubing. Is there any special prep required such as removing the al coating? I know I will destroy the coating in the weld area no matter what I do but worry that the aluminum coaing will become part of the weld and result in future cracking. I do know that the corrosion properties will not be to good in the weld area.
    Thanks, Rene'

Rene, I used to weld aluminized sheetmetal daily. There is no difference then welding bare steel. We just sprayed the post weld area with cold galv spray..Bob
