Hawk,or any one familier with the dynasty. I have recently (at the Miller Road Show in San Diego) upgraded my tig system from a SD180 to the Dynasty 200 DX. After taking the tig classes at the local college I was doing ok and had a few respectable looking welds however due to the lack of practice this past year I lost the rythem of adding filler material and the results don't look too good anymore. I even went back to using the SD180; it helped a little but that isn't the problem. I know it's me and not the equipment What settings would you recommend for the dynasty. I want to try and use the pulse mode to get the rythem of adding filler as I'm pretty sure thats where my problem is. Oh yes the material i'm using for practice is 3 x 5 pieces of 1/16 and some 1/8 in scrap aluminum.

Harold,
Good luck getting back into practice. On you 1/8" scrap try 100 amps with an 1/8" filler rod. Pulse settings for filler addition work well at 1.2 PPS, 50% Peak Time, 30% Background Amperage, 12-15 CFH Argon. You may want to play with the pulse rate from .8 up to 1.8 PPS to find a good rythym. If you are not getting a good puddle, crank up you amperage a bit. Depending on the size of your scrap 75-125 amps is a good ball park for the main amperage. On the 1/16" material start you main amperage at 55 amps and work from there. 1/8" filler should work fine on the 1/16" material. Use the same pulse settings. If your aluminum is run of the mill scrap, try 4043 filler first. If that blobs out, go to a 5356. Also an 1100 filler (99% commercially pure aluminum) is good for practice on most alloys because it flows so well. However, don't use 1100 for a real job unless it is the recommended filler. It is very ductile, but not real strong in all circumstances.
