That's one way to do it. You will find that most of your wire adjustment will be from 30% to 60% so starting at 50 is a good average. I think you will find that you will have to slow it down for most thinner materials and for heavy stuff, go up a tad.

do you start out with the wire speed setting 50 on the dial then just adjust from there? thnx guys

Andy answered a question about this subject in another thread the other day. I just learned first-hand how well it works. Blew a large hole (picked up a rock) in the mulcher cover for my mower deck. Plastic junk. Had some 22ga. sheet in the Gadget Garage. Door chart says "voltage 2/wire speed 30" for 20ga. I normally run the wire speed at 35 for 3/16 - I figured the wire would fly. Set it up; queezed the trigger - BINGO! Wire crawled out of the gun! Welded new cover out of STEEL; back to mowing in 30 minutes!
