Found something interesting online, AND it's made in my home town. It's a little doofloppy called an arc pig.

    arcpig.com

Check it out and see what you guys think. I read the design blog and like these guys' attitude.

Plus I have an HF251D. Might be a fun comparison.

Read some blurbs and saw some youtube's a few years back... was not very impressed at the time

But it looks like it has come a long way since then...

the website and manual are pretty impressive.. looks like a mature usable product..

I have built a few DIY HF boxes over the years and like the common sense engineering of using a spark plug for the spark gap..

It might not be safe for inverter power sources like your Maxstar..(might detonate the input stage..??). but bet it is dandy on a more bulletpoof AC/DC transformer type buzzbox ... I would ask them..

An interesting thread on Welding Tips & Tricks...

the designer actually addresses some questions

I'm gonna try and get the guys there to either let me come see it or come here and we can play a bit. I have TIG welded aluminum with my 251 hooked to my thunderbolt, against the advice of my LWS, who said it would never work.

It worked. Not great, but it worked. Once you get the hang of it and let that cleaning action work a bit to get some pre-heat before you go in for the puddle. The "expert" at the LWS said the 251 would rob so much power that I'd barely get the tungsten to spark. So I ran the juice all the way up and promptly shot a lighting bolt through 11ga aluminum on the first shot.

Anyway, looks neat and I like stuff made by men and not mass produced by machines.

If you do see Gordon tell him the guy that had the third one out said thanks again.. he made mine up and I didn't even buy from him. It was stored in Katy Texas somewhere for some time I guess. I bought it in December of 2015. It did quit on me so I emailed Gordon to see if there was anything I could check myself and for any pointers...we made phone contact after and then he said send it back to me. He made it up and it wasn't his responsibility... when he got it there he told me it was the third one they had sold. Very pleased with it and Gordon. Just good American made stuff

I live in the same town as Gordon. Katy is about two hours due west, just on the other side of Houston. <br />

Have you read the user's manual for the arc pig? It's entertaining to say the least. He also has some fun YouTube videos.

Yeah, pretty straight forward...Lots of good danger warnings inside. No kidding today at lunch I used the manual to take down a red wasp that came in at the drive thru...still had the manual in the truck from when I sent it back to him in January

Yeah..and entertaining. I've had passengers ask me wtf is a arc pig...and I just say read..they usually don't make it past the front cover where it says tested on human children. How else you gonna test it????
