If I was just joining the parts, I may use a smaller filler rod. But since I need a small lip around the edge, I'm just gonna run a nice bead around and that should work.
It's a replacement top for a cooler for one of the local restaurants. It'll just slide right over the existing top and screw right down. Has a built in cutting board on the front. There is a door to the cooler that sits on top and slides off for access to the inside along with the storage access in the front. I've test for it twice. So as long as I don't completely twist it out of shape, it should fit nicely. I'll try an remember to snap a couple pictures when I'm done.
So far, my fancy little argon backer doohickey works excellent, except for the times I forgot to turn it on. Blows through some argon quick though. I got about 2/3 the way done and I'm not sure my bottle will make it! Two welds 48" and two 21", so I'm back stepping my way around.
That fixture you made as a device to shield the back of the weld looks awesome. For the next time I would contact Solar Flux and ask them for a sample. I have used it in the past and had great results though it never was for food grade projects. It did work well for me and there are certain applications that you might not be able to back gas. Try it on a coupon. Just a thought.

That's the same size bottle I use. I'm welding with 15 CFH and back purging at the same rate so my consumption has increased. Plus I only had 1/3rd of a cylinder left when I started.
I think I'll take a look at that solar flux, I'm willing to give most things a fair shot.

At 30 CFH your bottle would last you 10+ hours of 100% duty cycle use... The issue is not having a spare bottle on hand then, not the size of it heh.

Found why my gas was going so fast...the valve body was loose on that brass fitting I screwed into the back purge doodad. Since I live on the sun here (gulf coast of Texas) and my shop isn't air conditioned, I couldn't hear the leak until this morning when I turned on the gas cylinder before my vent fan and squirrel cage. A quick twist with the adjustable wrench cured that problem.

I don't do that sort of welding, but I can see where it would help for sure. I'd be interested in trying it, but I doubt I'll really have a use for it. I notice the video only mentions the flux eliminating the discoloration of the weld. I wonder if it has any effect on the sugaring of the backside of weld though? I don't have circumstances where a nice straw or salmon color on the welds is unacceptable. Even if I did, nothing some wire brushing won't cure.
