Nickel plating usually has copper plating under it....

both will have to be ground off to the base mild steel before you can weld it properly..

What are you intending to weld...??... which process..?? MIG?? TIG..??

I am welding a mild steel bar to a locking plier drill press hold down tool as a part of a conversion to an anvil hold down tool. It will be easy enough to grind . Mig. Thanks

I would be real surprised to find a locking plier that was nickle plated. Probably chrome.
