intellitig?

i have a friend who found one (machine only) and a arc welder i guess that they go with each other i know that its a miller machine but dont know if its worth buying $150.00 ? a

the tig box turns on and i guess that it came from a shop that was closing down,

the serial ## are on the hobart board under hey elders????
if you have any info let me know

there are three versions that I could find
intellitig 4
intellitig 40
intellitig MPC

all are outboard programmable tig controllers for a separate welding power supply... which one are we talking about?... and maybe more importantly which power supply??? because for normal shop use the power supply may end up being the more useful of the two... the price seems good enough... you may be able to sell the controller to recoup invesment.. if it turns out not suitable for what you are doing..

those look like serial numbers... are there any model names on the front panels??... I am working from the manuals and cannot cross reference serial numbers in the company database like the official miller guys can... am a privateer just doing this when I have the time to contribute... away from my welding business

Andy and the factory guys will definately have a better handle on this one than I have... and may also know of some tricks to make that controller allow you to use that setup manually.. is worth a try..

Usually the I-tig was used with the Maxstar series but could be used with others. My question to you is, What do you plan on using it for?? It's primary use was semi auto and automated tig. It did have a manual setting but can be a bit of a bear to program depending on which model you have.
From the serial numbers you provided, those units were built in 1995.
Are they worth $150.? yes. Are they worth the headache? Probably not. Ask yourself this. Why are they selling them so cheap? Cause someone else is tired of them? Can't get it programmed right? Not fully functional? Overkill for manual tig? By the way...This is a DC only controller. NO Aluminum.

well iguess that the guy had a salvage job and found a few of these machines, with the precision arc welder. they both turn right on, but there are no leads or torches just the machine. im doing this research for a friend.
and i dont want ot steer him the wrong way, he is trying to get a few machines for his house (hobby use )

Dude,

Stop right there. This is by far not a hobby type unit. Your bud will most likely come over and kill your dog after messin' with it for awhile. It's not that easy to run and I would hate for you to invest a bunch of time putting the right parts together to make it go. It was really designed to run with a PLC or other automated relay logic controller. It's way overkill for manual tig. Way too much to go wrong to be effective.
