Hello, new to this forum and have recently started getting into miller welders. I just recently purchased a XMT 304 and already have a S 32P. While looking over some manuals I have for the S 32P, I came across a manual for the gun which is a M-40 M-40AL. Now I am assuming the Al is for aluminum but from all my learning you cant use a non spool gun for aluminum wire. The Gun is only 6 feet long and was curious, is this why you can use a M-40 with aluminum wire and the specific liner for it? Again I know you need a Spool gun to do aluminum but just weird to see just a gun in the manual and nothing about a M-40AL. Thank you in advance!

I'm not familiar with any spool gun whatsoever, but I agree with Griff, there are other ways to mig aluminum.
I made a shorter mig gun for my mm250 that I run 3/64ths 5356 wire through off and on and have had great success in doing so.
I generally haven't seen a need for a spoolgun in my fab shop, but I'd love to play with one.
