Are you saying that with the Pipepro 304 set at high range using 1/4 inch rod that it should not idle (ramp) up? Because when it is warm out it will ramp up but when it was cold here in Jan. Lloydminster(Canada) it was -50 C it would not ramp until the grinder was triggered. Any ideas why?????

Jim,

A number of things will cause this. The grinder as said before needs the 60 HZ power and always cause the unit to hit high idle. On the weld side, If he has a bunch of weld lead coiled up on the truck/trailer, that will cause an inductive condition that will choke current and cause the poor performance. This might be enhanced if the current sensor that kicks the machine up is affected by the cold. I would try some short leads and repeat the test or it may be a faulty current sensor.
In any case, feel free to call our engine drive service dept. at 920-735-4505 and ask for engine drive service.
