Maxstar 150 STH negative output dinse receptacle getting hot

Mine isn't nearly as bad as you describe yours to be. The only issue I have is the rubber sheath around the male end of the dinse connector for the TIG torch is loose. My guess is the precious owner got it a bit hot.

You're gonna love that little 150 STH. It's light, portable and the dual voltage comes in handy. If you're not into TIG welding, you're under utilizing that machine. It's worth getting a foot pedal too. I use mine quite a bit, even when I'm
in the shop and sitting next to a much bigger TIG machine.

For what my opinion is worth, if you got a good deal on that machine, it's absolutely worth replacing those melted parts. As far as if it is a known issue...I have no clue. My guess is...probably. Good luck with that thing.

Have to heat the dinze with a small butane torch, remove the brass nut on the back of it. Remove the old dinze. Clean the excess plastic off. And install another connector, tighten the bras nut and put a couple drops of red loctite on it

You could replace the dinse connector...look up the part number in the manual and order one from these guys..http://miller4less.com/

Thanks for the link. Has anyone dealt with a connector being melted into the faceplate before? I'd like to get it out of there without damaging the faceplate or anything else. I have some pictures but can't seem to upload attachments while posting from my phone.

The only problem is that the dinse connector has melted pretty far in the plastic and I think that's preventing the terminal ring from seating properly. I have tried prying and pushing on the dinse receptacle but it seems pretty well stuck in place. Along with the plastic gas hose, the dust cover, and some of the wire insulation were also burnt. For now, I just tightened the nut as best as I could and put it back together. Any suggestions?

Hello, I recently purchased a used Maxstar 150 STH. I have only stick welded with it and it seems to be working fine. The only issue I have noticed is the plastic around the negative output terminal has melted and the dinse receptacle has sagged downward into the plastic. At first I thought a previous owner must've had a loose ground connection which caused it to melt after heavy use. I checked the connections on the leads and then ran some rods DCEN to see if switching the ground made a difference but it still got hot. I took the cover off of the welder and found that the gas hose had been burnt off of the dinse fitting. I suspect that the connection to the receptacle must be loose or corroded causing this resistance. There are plastic covers in the way and I didn't want to pry the faceplate off because it seems melted to the dinse, and I didn't want to break anything. It appears these connectors are only held in place by the faceplate.Is this a common issue? Are there any instructions on taking apart the case? Do I need to buy a new dinse power/gas receptacle or should I be able to just repair the connection?
