    Chipping Slag

One of my welding instructors took a short sawzall blade and put a small handle on it and used it to remove his slag....just scraped his toe lines and it popped right off....but he was a **** of a stick welder and always had the machine set right and it peeled off in one piece most of the time

Chipping slag is a bad term. You should let the weld cool for a few seconds, and then rake the slag with your chipping hammer. If you try to beat the slag off-you will put divit marks all over your weld. Doesn't look good. Rake it off, and use a knotted wheel on a 4 1/2" grinder to clean it up.

7018 will peel itself for you if your mochine is set right. 6013 is really easy just a few seconds later. 6010 & 11 just a bit longer sometimes. A 2 3/4 cup brush or a twisted knot wire wheel are you friends at any rate.

If you wait for it to cool it's not as hot when it hits you.

As long as the molten metal has solidified it can be cleaned. Sometimes it does clean easier if you wait a few seconds for it to cool a bit more.
