Miller Spectrum 500

Does anyone have any info or experience with this machine? One is coming up at a local auction and I have not been able to find any info. When were these sold, capacity, single or 3 phase? It says it was only used 3 times. Any idea on how much it's worth?

is a single phase 200-575 volts AC will work fine on normal 230vac if jumpers are set correctly.... max cut according to the manual 5/8 inch here is a link to the pdf of the manual..

I have no idea how good a machine it is or what it is worth... looks about equiv to my thermal pak5xr ... think it is mid 90s vintage..

Thank you for the reply. I searched on the Miller site but nothing came up. Thanks for the owners manual link. I'll have to see if consumables are still available. If not, is it possible to upgrade to current parts? Might be something to look into.

my guess is that they are... know they are available for my mid 80s Pak5XR.... there are lots of folks out there that just make and market consumables for plasma torches... the older ones eat em like candy... all you have to do is look at it crosseyed... and poof..
have heard that the latest generation are very easy on consumables..
gonna replace that old 300lb thermal-arc machine with a 70someting(i think) pound Spectrum 2050... by summer I hope...

Ahh...Spectrum 500

I'd let that one pass.

consumables are a bit high and the torch on that unit came from Japan. I believe it was OTC.(APT5000) A replacement torch would be a pocket breaker. There are some replacement torch companies that you can get cheaper torches and consumables from.(you didn't hear that from me)

It was a transformer rectifier unit that was rated to about .500 in. I think unless you get it for a song......the new stuff is much better.

Make sure the torch is plugged in good to your machine. Make sure the consumables are right inside the torch head. Make sure the trigger is depressed correctly. Make sure the ground clamp is on good and the area is clean metal...Bob
