  • Millermatic 211 owners

Hi, Im new to the forum and new to welding but have been wanting to give it a shot, I decided to get the 211. I ordered the welder online and the box showed some signs of damage , I looked over the welder for any damage but could not physically see anything wrong, dented or bent.... except the fact that lower portion of the door at the rear does not sit tight to the housing. That brings me to the question of wether this is normal for this model? Im aware that there were issues with the door being difficult to open in the past but wasn't able to find any info on the door not sitting tight on the bottom rear corner.

    Thanks

My 180 which is the same cabinet as the 211 has a nice fit with proper reveals on all sides.

Thanks. I expected there to be more users of this model at least to get a better idea if some do and some don't come like this. I've tried searching google images but none have been from the right angle to see.

Door on my 211 flushes out properly.
Since the shipping carton showed damage--obviously the welder case took a poking from that.

[I get my machines from an LWS (Airgas-no less!) that matches or beats internet pricing....which they have latitude to do...depending on your biz with them, your account and your attitude.
I visually have to inspect and accept the new machine at the LWS. If it's damaged, it's not mine. LWS carefully inspects every truck shipment they get for trucker damage--including unwrapping pallets of stacked stuff.

What's not understood is once that internet purchased machine goes on a truck
from wherever....it is your machine. Damage is your problem and the trucker's.....good luck with that. Refuse the machine you've already bought--it's still your machine, your problem....hopefully you've paid with credit-not debit card for better leverage with paypal, etc.
The above is a big, big difference between buying local and buying on the net.
99% of all new Millers sold on net or by store--are dropped shipped directly from Miller warehouses.]

I agree to an extent, it is more convenient to buy from a lws or even a big box store for that matter (not miller prod), if something doesn't look right take it back and get another. While I don't have that luxury in this case its not as bad as you make online purchases sound.

I did have options, I could have returned it at no cost to me for a refund or we could have filed a claim with the shipping company. I personally would rather not do either of those and to be honest I don't think any damage was done to this welder. I've been able to find a couple other photos and video of people's millermatics, in this case 180, and have seen the same space from the door to the housing wich leads me to believe it's not uncommon.

Here's a pic that I copied of a brand new millermatic 180, the area circled in red. This is what I'm seeing on my 211 also visible from the rear.

            84flatbed,

I have a 211MM. Mine has a slight raise off the frame on the lower left side, as depicted in your photo. I believe I noticed this when I first purchased it from a local supplier. I never thought it was that much to be concerned about. I figured since it was the door representing the entire side of the machine, it probably had a tendency not be perfectly flush fitting. My machine works as advertised, even though I am not a professional welder, but a hobbyist, I have never noticed any problems with its performance. Perhaps you could take your machine into a local supplier, and see if they think there would be any problems.

Hi, mine and my neighbors is the same as in your picture too. Must be a standard feature,
              Both bought local too.

I'd strongly doubt that these leave the assembly line this way.
This may be a case of poor handling/packaging that's creating this glitch.

Mine fits just like yours, purchased at LWS. I had ordered online and the first one came with the door completely broken off. The next one came with one hinge broken and the bottom pan bent so bad the door wouldn't close. They took both back, but wouldn't send another due to UPS's inability to deliver undamaged. That's when I went to the LWS. Cost a little more, but at least it was in one piece.

I don't believe it's the door that's warped, at least with mine it looks like the fold/fin at the rear isn't folded in enough so the upper part of the door hits it before touching at the bottom. I would have doubted that something in this price range would pass this kinda fitment issue but with as many people seeing the same thing at the same location I would doubt that poor handling/packaging could cause such a consistent flaw. I guess it's what's on the inside that counts ha ha.

I've sighted down mine like an automotive body part and can't find any dings, scratches or dents.
