  • Need Tecumseh parts

I have a good Miller Roughneck 2 with an OH160 Tecumseh engine and I think the solid state coil/ magneto is bad. A local small engine shop says they can't get the coil from Tecumseh and I've not tried Miller yet but in my search I ran across your site. Any help is appreciated.

Miller won't have engine parts, so your going to be looking on ebay as your best bet.

It seems that the OE Solid State Module has long been out of production...

but there are several folks garage engineering workable substitutes..

here is just one thread on the subject...

there are quite a few others if you do a search...

It seems those old engines have quite a following with the garden tractor racers...

Does not seem to be there...

Parts lookup and repair parts diagrams for outdoor equipment like Toro mowers, Cub Cadet tractors, Husqvarna chainsaws, Echo trimmers, Briggs engines, etc.

Unfortunately TECUMSEH went out of the small engine business about 2008..

so parts are getting very hard to find...

I see used ignition coil/modules in the $150 range... seems too much...

if there is enough demand... probably some chinese factory will start to make them... but that is probably a longshot..

I took an interest in this thread because we have several TECUMSEH powered pieces of equip.... kinda sad that parts are so hard to get..
Those of us with lathes and mills will at least be able to adapt or make our own replacements.. if worthwhile..

As I understood it a few years ago when rebuilding a Tecumseh as best I could, somebody bought what was left of the company with the intention of building parts, but people had lost confidence that he would succeed. I needed ignition parts, too. Since they were not to be had, I adapted a mid-'70s Chrysler car ignition (the NASCAR blue box, lah di dah!!), which puts out big fat sparks!

Neither. I buy lots of parts from these two sights now that our local small engine
shop owner retired and closed down his shop.
                    No eyeroll needed.

i would not waste a doller on a junk tecumseh engine. Say you find the magneto then something else fails..wasted money. Not sure what the size of the output shaft is. However i have seen several used honda 13hp with tapered shafts sell for under 250.

It seems they are offering some support for engines built 2004 and later..

                              earlier models are not mentioned...

their demise and partial rebirth has been complex and messy..

the major business of their now parent company Tecumseh Products is air conditioning/refrigeration compressors

I do know that none of the small engine parts places in our area know of a parts source for that ignition module..... nor do any of the many online places I have checked...
Orphaned..??... most frequent response was ... that they have not been available for several years..
