Use cycle of a Plasma cutter

Hey Guys,

I have started using the second hand Max 20 I picked up and today I came across some issues/problems. Do plasma cutters have a operational length of time before it powers down or needs to cool? I don't if it was because of heat or the way I was using the torch but it would burn for a bit and then stop. It seemed that when it cooled down it pickup up again. Another post mentioned "consumables." Could consumables or what is being consumed be the cause for the pause?

P.S. I finally get the MM210 up and running this week. Electrician shows up on Tuesday.

try replacing the nozzle and electrode first. that is usually the cause of "start and stop" cutiing problems.its hard to actually see the wear on the electrode because it doesn't take much wear to cause the problem. but they both last a good amount of time depending on how its used. they should also be replaced as a set. the tip of the torch may need cleaned to. they usually dont wear out but do need cleaned every so often. they get carbon build up and can be cleaned with medium grit sand paper or emery cloth. since its used, how dirty is the inside. take the cover off and blow out the inside with a compressor. it may be really dirty on the inside and that could be causing cooling problems. hypertherm recommends doing this every six months.hope this helps
