If I was buying a new feeder today the 230 would be on my short list. Priced right as well as sized right.

Hobart actually builds the Ironman 230. An Ironman 230 is one of my current units. I owned a Millermatic 210 for 10+ years, and the 230 is built just a robust as the MM 210. They both contain the same dual driven wire drive system.
For indoor use, I'd go with an .035 wire and C25. Lincoln's L-56 performs well on this unit.Attached Files

It should be all you need to do what you want. It is a good machine just not built to the industrial specs as the Miller units but still better than most others.
If you are welding indoors I would use solid wire & 75/25 gas. If outdoors use gasless flux core wire. In flux core I like the Hobart 21b wire.

I agree on a stick welder too. My MILLER CST 280 would be perfect for that.

Miller might make it, though its a second class citizen in its welding world, best to stick with real Miller. In other words, not a real good unit from my perspective

purchasing an Horbart ironman 230 welder.
Will be using it to weld, new from a steel warehouse, 3 inch square tubing with 1/4 thick wall.
With the new welder what do you think I should use; flux wire or regular wire?
Also will be welding 1/8 thick plate to the tubing and some 1/4 inch thick plate to the tubing.
Since Miller makes the Ironman welder I figure this would be the place to ask this question.Tags: None
