Synchro250 vs Dynasty

Why should I shell out the money, if available, for a Dynasty 200 and already have a Synchro 250?? Seriously

Also, is the Synchro 250"Square Wave or Adavance Square Wave"??

Which spool gun is the right one for my "vintage"??

I just so happen to have the 2004 miller catalog next to the computer, last question first for the vintage you will need either the spoolmatic 15a or 30a. Me personally the 30a is better, longer cables 30 feet instead of 15 feet.

The syncrowave is a regular squarewave the advanced would help if you are working in Aluminum and Magnesium, with greater adjustability in the negative portion of the cycle. It will help with greater cleaning action and better tungsten life.


Me personally unless you really need the greater adjustability why do it. If you give the time and patience to practice many times you should be able to do virtually identical work. My engine builder uses the syncrowave to fix cylinder heads and blocks and has done magnesium with it so I know it can be done, but he is a very very accomplished racing engine builder, and has given great attention to details in his practice.

I have used the dynasty and the aditional features make tig easier for me but I am not at all accomplished at tig, just barely above
beginner. I hope this helps.

The Syncro 250 is an awesome machine. Keep it and devote the time to learning the process. The Dynasty is also a great machine with lots of extra goodies. It is easier to learn to tig, but it is also difficult to overcome all the new and hidden controls. There is a learning curve on either machine. Since you have some experience with the Syncro-250 keep it and learn on it. Then the Dynasty will seem much easier to use.

If you just have money burning a hole in your pocket, then sure buy the Dynasty 200DX and learn on it. It is really just a matter of do you have the extra cash and what do you personally want to do.

I have the Hobart version of the Synchro 250 (Tigwave 250) and is gold as opposed to blue.. Bought it new about 12-13 years ago and have used it nearly exclusively for tig... If I were faced with just keeping one machine for in the "shop" and getting rid of all the rest... Well that 250 would be the keeper.. (excluding the mobile stuff.. Trailblazer etc..)
The Synchro 250 is one very capable machine...

Looks like your questions have already been answered for the most part. The 15A or 30A are the right spoolguns for your machine as was already mentioned cable length is the only real difference. I do have one thing to add though. You will also need a module (pn 043084) to attach the spoolgun to your Vintage. As for the tig questions you have already recieved some excellent advice.
