I've seen a couple of these but never when it actually breaks. Anyone seen one snap in person? Does it just peel out or is there a big bang & the machine jerks?

Normally the cutting edges fail because people remove the side cutters from the bucket. The side cutters provide strength to the bucket, and stop the wear from the edge of the bucket. Normally one side crarcks then it peels off in one motion, no boom, just a ruined bucket.

How long does it take til it thaws enough to weld or is it not that cold? Atleast it gives you buisness. Where are you at? Alaska?
I'm located about a 1 hour north of Detroit just on the other side of the river, once I started on this bucket it went pretty good, gouged all the old crap metal off and and a few test fits later it was ready to weld back on....
The side plates were wore out so it will be getting new ones also.
In the picture it's not all welded yet, but on there so I could move it around to set it up better.
