Completely normal, most Welding shop foreman are not welders themselves, they laydown and read the plans from the engineers and instruct the journeymen on what the plan is. The journeymen assemble the drawing while the lackys cut the material to spec. The apprentices complete the long welds that the jouneymen have set up and life goes on.

Hi guys, I'm a journeyman welder living in Alberta Canada.
I have a few questions regarding the rules for welding in Alberta.
As I just recently visited a shop. where only a couple of people were journeymen and the rest were either apprentices at one time (now cancelled)
or unlicenced welders from out of province. The shop welding Forman has NO welding qualifications what so ever, but instructs guys on at to do.
Many thoughts?
