Do you like the Pyrex cup on a gas lens setup, any reason not to like it.

I have not been welding a lot for a while. Last quicky project was to weld up a cracked running board for the daughters boyfriend a month ago. I have a few projects coming up I am wanting to do, a lot of aluminum and some stainless trinkets as well. I have never welded with a gas lens and in searching for the one to order for my wp20 I see the Pyrex cup option, I assume visibility is the advantage but is there any reason you would not like one ??

EDIT: Since no replies yet I will add that while on DG site I came across the Wolfram tungsten at more than double the cost, who here has tried it and have an opinion as to how it might have preformed in the real world ?? I doubt that I am enough of a welder to even appreciate or tell the diff ?

I use gas lens all the time for better gas coverage, you can use less gas flow (cfh) under normal circumstances. I can also stick my tungsten (wolfram) out further if I need to. I haven't used the Pyrex cup either, don't imagine it would have a use for everyday work, maybe tight or hard to reach areas.

What site is DG? Tungsten is also known as Wolfram, so without seeing the website you refer to I don't have an answer for that, however I have a lot of doubt about tungsten selling at 2X $.

Yes, price I questioned was DG, $33 vs $78 for wolfram, I'll double check.

OK.... looks like they have adopted the term "Wolfram" as a trade name for a specialized higher purity/grade of 2% Lanthanated Tungsten....

That guidebook is full of information that I had not previously read or known, I will have to continue reading and re-reading to absorb, my 50 yo brain is not the sponge it used to be.

Well the benefits of their Wolfram Tungsten (according to DG) is;

• Reliable arc-striking
• Low burn-off rate
• Highest quality of arc
• 35% less power consumption
• 40% prolonged service life
• 50% less set-up costs
• 50% less gas consumption
• 100% reproducible results

I'd have to try their tungsten to see for myself, however except for the most demanding or critical application not sure the extra $ is worth it, unless of course someone else is paying...

I've never used up an ink pen to the end, let alone using up an electrode through natural wear or erosion, I am too rookie and get mine contaminated so often I am always cutting and re-sharpening so in other words I waste 75% of an electrode, so while I am always curious I am not worthy of $7 a piece electrodes unless they refuse to get dipped in the puddle.
