Multimatic 200 won't start an arc when trying to Tig weld.

Need help! I have triple checked all the connections and polarity. I have the machine set to lift-arc tig with remote. I have the tungsten touching the work piece then press the foot pedal and lift the torch up slowly. It arc's for less than 1 second and then stops. I have tried all sorts of heights for the torch and materials to weld with the same result. Please help!

I have it set to Auto-set. 3/32" rod and 14ga material.

Have you tried standard lift start no remote?

Correct straight Argon?

I have tried both with and with out the remote with the same results. Straight argon and it is set for - electrode and +work clamp.

I have tried all sorts of positions. I am pretty sure I tried it all the way depressed but at this point I can't remember for sure.

No progress. I tried it last night with it set to non remote and manual mode 120amps. I can not find a phone number for a Miller tech. I wrote an e-mail but there response was "what gas are you using?" I answered 3 days ago and no response from tech support. Needless to say, I am very displeased with Miller right now. Very poor customer support/tech support.

Did you buy it at a local welding supplier, or off the Internet?? If purchased locally, they may be able to help you out.....

I got it from cyberweld. I have never been able to get it to weld in tig mode. Mig and Stick mode work great though.

Problem here is that there really isn't much difference between lift arc and cc, other than the decrease in amperage during the lift arc process. Have you tried scatch starting?

With the stick welding side working properly it doesn't sound like it's a machine issue. A couple more things other than the gas that could cause this, what are you running for tungsten (pure, ceriated)? and are you sharpening the tungsten or balling it?
