Thats what the PPP setting is for on your XMT, so works for spool gun , or what ever feeder you have for it. Kinda like the mpa power sources without the extra $$$ expense. Pop on an Optima and off you go. hech there is a bunch of the optima on fleabay... The ones that say Optima are correct, the ones that say Optima 300, are not.

    Optima 300's have a 17 pin, which only fit a XMT300

I use an Optima on my Miller 456MP. Works very well with my spool gun or wire feeder. I am not aware of a pulse on pulse option from Miller though. If my Optima is capable of that please let me know how! I have never seen that in the menus anywhere.

B & M Welding, Pulse on Pulse is lincoln terminology, I believe CRUIZER was talking about Lincolns 350MP.

Pulse on pulse is Lincoln, nifty, to prevent burn through on very thin aluminum, anyways the Optima may be a simple solution for Portable to make full use of his XMT

            Hello everyone,

I asked Chris Roehl the product manager for the Millermatic 350P's for his input on the differences between the Millermatic 350P and Millermatic 350P Aluminum to clarify some of the questions that were being discussed here.

Miller Electric offers two different Millermatic 350P options for pulse mig aluminum applications.

For shops looking for versatility, the original Millermatic 350P is the machine. The Millermatic 350P has pulse programs for steel, stainless, metal core and aluminum and is compatible with MIG, Spool and Push/pull guns. The Millermatic 350P does a good job pulsing aluminum but more attention to setup is critical to ensure proper wire feed. The drive roll tension, SUP value and wire brake tension adjustments are very important to provide consistent and quality feeding of aluminum wire.

For shops that desire a dedicated aluminum machine, the Millermatic 350P Aluminum is the best option. The Millermatic 350P Aluminum only has aluminum pulse programs and uses a torque motor to feed the wire, making it compatible with only push/pull guns. When feeding aluminum wire a torque motor is the best option. A torque motor assists the pull motor in the gun which eliminates birdnesting, wire shaving, producing consistent wire feed. This machine also utilizes an electronic wire spool brake assembly, this reduces wire drag and provides positive braking which prevents overspooling. If software upgrades are necessary, a data port is located above the drive motor in the wire spool compartment for easy access. The Millermatic 350P Aluminum also has a dual schedule feature and a trigger hold feature.

              thanks for responding...

all of this is good info...

BUT the real question was how the MM350P & MM350P-Aluminum compare to the Lincoln MP350...
              .

Thank you for clearing up difference between the two machines.
For me the 350-P has been awesome and run flawless for over 3 years.
Question; can you upgrade programs ie software on the reg. 350-P
                Thx greg

                  H80N,

Both models are capable of roughly the same things when it comes to mig and pulse mig welding. Both perform well so which one someone thinks welds better than the other would really come down to a matter of personal preference.

With that being said where I feel the Millermatic 350P does have advantages is the ease of set-up, a 4 drive roll drive system, the ability to pulse weld with a spoolgun and a much wider selection of compatiable push pull guns.

If you are looking at strictly welding aluminum and you then compare to the Millermatic 350P Aluminum the Miller has even more advantages. A torque push motor and electronic spool brake optimize the wirefeed system. The dual schedule feature saves you time and the trigger hold feature makes it easy on the operator during longer welds.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks Kevin, For the detailed information on the torque motor.

One of my friends who owns a fab shop called me today asking about the Lincoln Pulse on Pulse running it through his spool gun, He just bought the 350 MP without the push pull gun, I'm trying to convince him to to get it so I can try his.

At that point I will be looking to find a Miller 350 P Aluminum to try.

I will need to find out where the nearest Road show is to try it out.

Does the Miller 350 P Aluminum have the type of wire feed knob like the 252 where you have to spin it around a full revolution to notice a change in your wire feed speed.

                        Portable,

The Millermatic 350P Aluminum does have encoders on the front like a Millermatic 252. However on the Millermatic 350P Aluminum the wire speed would be adjusted at the gun itself because you will always either have a push/pull or a spoolgun on that unit.

I just sold my Push Pull welder and went to see about miller financing just to find out I have to finance $ 10,000 or more to get the zero percent for a year.

The 350 P Aluminum is around $ 6,800.00, I dont feel the need to buy an additional $ 3,200.00 just to get zero percent

I guess my spool gun will have to hold me over until the right job comes along.

H80N, Your just like my kids, Always spending my money haha.

As soon as I start using all of the potential that my Dynasty 300 has I will think about the Dynasty 350.

Since Uncle Sam looks at any money left in the company check book as my money and not the companies money at the end of the year I mise well take it.

So we have to wait for the company to get some money, you cant buy a $ 7,000.00 welder when theres only $ 300.00 in the check book, We have to pick up pop cans right now to have gas money to get to the next job.
