  • Lincolns 350 MP is better than Millers 350 P

I plan on buying a specialized Mig aluminum set up in the next 6 months so I typed in Lincoln and the miller equivalents and only found a article on millers 350 P from back in 2012, I could not find a article showing the newer Miller 350 P Aluminum.

The comparison from 2012 would certainly make a person in the Market to buy an aluminum Mig look at the Lincoln even if they have been true blue.

I was able to run the lincoln 350 P at a Lincoln booth at the Monroe county fair last summer for about a minute and a half before we had the worst storm of the summer and was cut short.

I'd really like to hear from someone who has run the Lincoln and the 350 P Aluminum.

      lincoln 350 mp

I have a lincoln mp350 at work, it is a great welder. It runs .035, .045 solid wire really well, we air arc off the machine, runs 3/16 carbons, and it is an awesome stick welder. For aluminum it really shines, my buddy has one set up with a push/pull gun it makes welding aluminum in any postion very easy. In pulse 1/16 aluminum boat hulls are easily welded. In fact, it made it so easy i had to bug my friend that he finally figured out how to weld!
As for the 350p on millers side I cant comment, but can say i have never seen the 350mp get beat, also when miller informed me not to air arc off the 350p, we did not even look at the welder.
All lincoln said about the 350 mp and air arcing was not to exceed the duty cycle.

I have a 350MP Lincoln machine now for about 8 years. I do a lot of pulse on pulse aluminum with it and some mild steel. The machine is awesome for aluminum once it is dialed in. Owners manual could be better and it needs to be read really well to get the best out of the machine.
Just did a software update for it too which is nice to see Lincoln supporting it.

Tryagn5, Thanks for your comments, from what I read, there is not a CC option for the Miller 350P so thats why you cant air arc, stick weld or do tig steel.

I'm fine with buying a dedicated machine to do aluminum as long as it does it better than Lincolns multi process machine that I could use for other processes.

H80N, Thanks for the videos, I found everyone of them except the guy that does the off road wheels.

            I. Love the Linc 350 mp, easily software upgradeable fore ever. Easy to t-shoot if a problem surfaces. And other than ac tig, it does everything. Also really easy to modify a miller 30 A spool gun for it. Now the 300mp is basically the same as the 350, it's just a software upgrade to make it into a 350

              PowerMig 350MP v. Millermatic 350P trial

Here is a thread on the subject from SFT that is worth reading...

              PowerMig 350MP v. Millermatic 350P trial

You might also do a search at SFT on "MM350P" ... while not just a dedicated aluminum machine ... it does a great job on it.... and there are several very happy owners there..

Once again H80N, However I would love to see a comparison of the newer Lincoln 350 MP verses the Miller 350-P Aluminum

I realize the Miller 350-P might be a little more apples to apples comparison than the aluminum Model.

Lincolns 350 MP is better than Millers 350 P

Portable Welder, just a thought but I remember reading a thread that someone listed on the 350-P Alum model only having a single drive roller and the Reg. 350-P has dual drive rollers.
My 350-P is not the Alum model and has dual rollers.
Can't help on comparison, my last Lin was SP200 bought late 70's area. So that Michine is no comparison.

Gnforge, Thanks for pointing that out, Based on the pictures Millers 350 P has a 4 drive roll system while The 350-P Aluminum does not.

I'm pretty sure this is not something Miller over looked, My guess is because when feeding aluminum on a push pull set up you have rollers in the gun pulling the wire out of the machine so you dont want the machine to over push the wire which could create a birds nest.

Now as far as the 350 P which is now designed for steel more so than aluminum your not likely going to have a push pull gun on the machine so you get the 4 rollers to push.

Maybe some one else can elaborate more on the subject since this is only a educated guess.

My thought also. Just wanted you to know, if your like me want to know before I buy, hate surprises after get it into shop & open the box.
Like you said if main use is Alum then that's what it's made for.

Whats nice about it as well, is if your wanting to run some sort of exotic wire, Linc will design a program for that wire, email it to you and you can install it via a laptop and www.powerwavesoftware.com

Cruizer, I have to say you have me thinking Red might be a fair comparison and if its equal to Blue but has the added feature of welding steel and air arcing I will certainly take this into consideration.

However, My ultimate goal is a aluminum mig welder, If the welder I buy has such a great arc that it almost looks like a Tig weld but faster would also be a plus.

Well, you have lots of choices, if its thin ALuminum, then the Linc is the better choice with the pulse over pulse. If its larger Aluminum then the 350P is the choice. or heck with either and just find a Optima 304 and stick with your XMT304 and a spoolgun

The Optima has lots of nifty pulse programs

Cruizer, I've often wondered about the Optima but never really looked into it, I never even gave it a consideration to use it through the spool gun.
