Is the Millermatic 212 a step up, down or lateral move over a 210?

I have the mm 210 - used it for many years and is a great machine.

In my opinion, the mm212 is just the modern replacement for it.

The mm211 is a smaller version with lower duty cycle.

There are two versions of the MM 212. The first was a 7 voltage tap unit like the 210. More than likely it was the 210 in a different wrapper. The second 212 is the current variable voltage unit.

The current 212 is a step down in top end power compared to the 210. The variable voltage control gives the current 212 a significantly higher level of adjustability over the 210.

I have taken a couple of glances at the IM 230. For the money it's a nice machine. My 210 has never hiccuped; it's just sometimes I see shiny things and get distracted. I've snapped out of it!!

I have that problem too - but since there is no good reason to sell my mm210, I just buy different stick/tig machines instead

if you run a MM 210 and an Ironman 230 back to back, you'll notice a few performance issues that make the 230 a superior unit to the 210. One of these of course is the additional voltage tap selections. I weld a lot of 1/8" mild steel, and to be a good 1/8" unit, the 210 really needed another tap selection between 2 and 3. The 230 has this advantage with taps 4 and 5.

On the 210, once you hit tap 4 spatter starts showing up , and the level increases as you go up in tap selections. The choke design used on the 230 keeps the spatter level fairly light through out the entire out put range the unit covers.

On the low end, the 230 dials down to a lower output power level than the 210, making the 230 a better thin ga sheet metal unit

The MM 210 is a good unit, I am just pointing out some reasons why I decided to keep my Ironman 230 over my MM 210. Of course, I have an ESAB Migmaster 250 that offers some advantages over the 230 too.
