What are some good starting parameters and how much gas and stickout should i be using? I can lay every position down well except vertical at 28.5V and about 150 IPM. What's a good setting for vertical?

35 cfh. The voltage sounds good but the wire speed seems low for 1/16th wire. If I remember correctly I use to run around 300 flat, horizontal, and would cut it back to around 275 for vertical. We used E71T1 with a 75/25 shield. I personally liked the .045 over the 1/16th.

dual shield
I think 1/4 to 3/8ths stick out, i think 28 might be alittle to hot depends on the thickness of the plate, especially vert, it'll need time to build on start up w/o burning through then you can make a nice stringer up to you i wouldn't go no less than 20 though, that would be to cold, all machines are a little tempermental , keep an upper angle and take your time let it back fill as you work your way up and watch the puddle, good luck.

Depending on what brand wire you are using, you can look on the Lincoln website, the ESAB website, the Hobart Bros. website, etc., and get some specific parameters for the wire you are using. Just like with politics, there is no "one size fits all",,,, they are all different. A smart boy should be able to figure this out for himself.Obviously, I'm just a hack-artist, you shouldn't be listening to anything I say .....
