  • Help with big blue 300p no output hlp 22

Hi I recently purchased a big blue 300p in rough shape. It says hlp 22 as soon as I start it and hlp 22 even with key turned on and not running. F1 fuse is good but it has no AC or DC output . Please help Thanks Dan

You've lost your SCR firing board, nothing much happens after that. Why, cause the engine is running too fast, and/or may have had the battery boosted. You likely have also lost your voltage board. Best to replace as a set anyways. About a grand for both.

So its pretty much junk then I guess. Is the F1 fuse wires the excitation circuit and if so shouldn't I have voltage on them? Thanks Dan

Well no, unsure if this unit has the 2 boards or just the one. If both then just replace them, machine will fire up. Set the RPM, via frequency at around the 61.6-61.8, and its a happy machine again. Its only money and not worth anything not working.

Can I just put 12 volts DC to the brushes to see if it even produces anything. Usually I do that to generators to make sure the rotor and stator are OK before assuming the voltage regulator is bad.

Ummmm, NO. That 12vdc boost was on sa200's you'd smoke the exciter diode on anything else. And this one exited runs off boards. Get a service manual. I told you what was wrong, I fix these....

OK ill take your word for it . Im going to order both the main module board and voltage regulator board which are around $1200 a pair. I wish there was a way to test them or find out which one of the two was bad. The machine is in real rough shape . It came from the steel mills and is beat up. If the boards are not the fix then what can I try?? I repair lots of generators but not welders. I bought this for $900 with the intension of having it around the shop. Thanks for your help
